CNN Sets Airdate for Campus Sexual Assault Doc 'The Hunting Ground' (Exclusive)
The film by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering will receive its first network airing on Nov. 19.
The Hunting Ground, CNN Films' landmark documentary expose of campus sexual assault that has been shown at more than 1,000 colleges and inspired a flurry of state legislation, will reach its widest audience ever when CNN airs the film at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The news network’s exclusive broadcast, which will have only limited commercial interruptions, will be followed by a roundtable discussion titled “Sexual Assault on Campus” to be hosted by CNN New Day anchor, Alisyn Camerota.
A panel of legal and counseling experts — all skilled in investigating sexual assault allegations — will be joined by the film’s Oscar-nominated directors, Kirby Dick, a two-time Emmy winner, and Amy Ziering, who has twice been an Emmy recipient.
The pair also collaborated on the award-winning Invisible War, which documented the sexual assault crisis within U.S. military ranks. ”We are glad CNN is presenting The Hunting Ground and providing a national platform for this urgent issue that has been ignored far too long,” said Dick.
Campus screenings of the film, which is built around extraordinarily frank interviews with students Annie Clark and Andrea Pino — both victims of sexual assaults — have been a center piece of the Obama White House’s national initiative to deal with a problem that has long gone unrecognized, or worse, swept under the rug by college officials.
The Hunting Ground, distributed by The Weinstein Company, will get another airing on CNN at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET on Nov. 22.
Meanwhile, the documentary’s moving theme song, “Til It Happens to You,” performed by Lady Gaga and composed by seven-time Academy Award nominee Diane Warren has become a sensation on its own. The song's video, directed by Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwicke, has received nearly 20 million views online.
