MTV has promoted Momita Sengupta and Andy Portnoy to serve as West and East Coast heads of series production, respectively.

Sengupta has been named senior vp, while Portnoy has been upped to vp. Both will be responsible for overseeing production for pilots and series, with Los Angeles-based Sengupta handling all projects based on the West Coast and New York-based Portnoy handling those on the East Coast.

The move is part of the new structure and creative direction set forth in May by Tony DiSanto, executive vp series development and programming at MTV and MTV2.

Sengupta and Portnoy will report to Chris Linn, senior vp series development and programming.

"Momita and Andy have emerged as exceptional leaders, and we are fortunate to have them on our team," Linn said.

Sengupta, who joined MTV in 1995, had been serving as vp product management for MTV Films for 11 years, during which time she managed the production and postproduction of such movies as "The Original Kings of Comedy," "Pootie Tang" and "Beavis and Butt-Head Do America."

Portnoy was senior director of production management for MTV. Before joining MTV in 2005, he helped launch the newly branded Spike TV, where he served as production executive for various live events and series.
