ROME -- The Coen brothers will be on hand for a special retrospective of their work at the Naples Film Festival, organizers said Wednesday.

The ninth edition of the festival, which kicked off Wednesday and runs through June 20, is part of an increasingly crowded Italian festival calendar. Also scheduled for the second half of June are Sicily's June 17-22 Taormina Film Festival, the inaugural Drake International Film Festival (June 23-30) and the 43rd annual Pesaro Film Festival (June 24-July 2).

The Naples event's artistic director, Davide Azzolini, said the Coens' participation increases the festival's visibility and will give Italian movie lovers a chance to know their work better.

"The presence of Joel and Ethan Coen makes us happy and proud," Azzolini said in an interview. "For us, this retrospective will be like a festival within a festival."

In addition to the retrospective, the festival includes several competitive categories, including sections for European films, productions from Mediterranean countries and one for documentaries and short films shot at least in part in Naples or produced by Neapolitan directors.
