Colin Firth Joining 'Mary Poppins Returns'
Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda are starring in Disney's sequel.
Colin Firth is in negotiations to join Disney's sequel Mary Poppins Returns.
The musical stars Emily Blunt as the magical nanny opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda, star and creator of the Broadway hit musical Hamilton. The story is set 25 years after the events of the first Mary Poppins movie. It centers on the now-grown children from the 1964 original, Michael and Jane Banks, who experience a personal loss that results in the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Blunt), who teams up with her lamplighter friend Jack (Miranda) to help the family.
Rob Marshall is directing Mary Poppins Returns from an adapted script by David Magee as well as producing alongside Marc Platt and John DeLuca. Marc Shaiman is composing an all-new score; he and Scott Wittman are collaborating in writing the original songs.
Firth will play William Weatherall Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.
Disney has set the sequel for release on Dec. 25, 2018, more than five decades after the classic film first played in theaters.
Firth was most recently seen in Bridget Jones’s Baby, and will soon be seen in The Mercy and sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group.
