Comcast Adds NBC Peacock to Corporate Logo
The cable giant, which owns a 51 percent stake in NBCUniversal, has quietly brought back the iconic symbol after dropping it from the entertainment firm's logo.
Cable giant Comcast has quietly adopted a new corporate logo that includes the iconic NBC network peacock, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The change, visible on a redesigned corporate site launched late Monday (www.cmcsk.com), comes nearly two years after the company changed the logo of entertainment giant NBCUniversal after acquiring a 51 percent stake in it. That redesign, unveiled at a town hall meeting in early 2011, dropped the rainbow-feathered peacock and Universal’s globe.
The simple purple logo drew some criticism from long-time employees, but was seen as a symbol of Comcast's focusing on basics. Of course, NBC was also trailing in the ratings back then, but has started this fall TV season stronger.
The former Comcast corporate logo featured a big red "C." The new logo, unveiled ahead of Comcast's 50th anniversary next year, uses a new and thinner uppercase typeface. The peacock is spreading its feathers on top of it.
The Journal said that the logo was showcased in an internally broadcast staff meeting Monday led by Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts, NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams and Comcast Cable president Neil Smit. Their presentation came from the set of Saturday Night Live, it said.
"The peacock is one of the most recognizable brands in America, and if you look at the iconic peacock with the modern new font for Comcast, it brings together the whole concept of media and technology," said a Comcast spokeswoman.
The new logo will gradually replace the old one on Comcast cable bills, in ads and on service trucks.
