Comedy Central Launches in Spain
The channel renames Viacom's Spanish Paramount Comedy and mixes international product with homegrown content.
MADRID – Viacom International has rebranded its popular Paramount Comedy channel in Spain to the internationally recognized Comedy Central, fusing local production with iconic programs like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Arrested Development.
The renamed channel, which launches Wednesday, will celebrate its shift with a domestically produced high-definition El Roast de Santiago Segura. Amiguetes los justos, featuring Spain’s cult comedian Santiago Segura.
Comedy Central will continue to offer the content combination that has been the key to its success: quality international series premiered exclusively, the best national series like South Park, film and of course, in-house production of stand-up program as the hallmark of the channel. But additionally there will be new animated formats and humorous sketches.
Comedy Central joins Viacom International’s other Spanish channels -- Paramount Channel, Nickelodeon and MTV. The channel will continue on the pay platforms that hosted Paramount Comedy: Canal Plus, Ono and Movistar TV among others.
