Comedy makes up mind for 'Mencia,' 'Bush'
EmptyComedy Central has renewed "Mind of Mencia" and the animated series "Lil' Bush."
The network has ordered 10 new episodes for the fourth season of "Mind of Mencia," featuring comedian Carlos Mencia offering his point of view on various topics, and is targeting a spring premiere. The show is executive produced and created by Mencia and Robert Morton.
"Mencia" averaged 1.5 million total viewers during its third season, ranking No. 1 among basic cable with men 18-24 in its time slot at 10-10:30 p.m. Sundays. The third-season DVD hits stores Oct. 23.
"Carlos Mencia is a huge asset to our network," said Lauren Corrao, exec VP original programming and development, adding that he "connects with our audience on every level."
Added Mencia: "I look forward to doing another season of 'Mind of Mencia.' I hope this doesn't mean I can't be on 'Dancing With the Stars.' "
Mencia next appears on the big screen in "The Heartbreak Kid." He is repped by Gersh Agency, managers Lee Kernis and Tim Sarkes at Brillstein Entertainment and attorney David Matlof.
Meanwhile, "Lil' Bush" will be back for a second season in the spring with 10 new episodes. The show features the future president along with such pals as Lil' Condi and Lil' Cheney as they terrorize the White House and solve the world's problems before bedtime.
"Bush," which debuted June 13 to 1.5 million viewers, is from creator/executive producer Donick Cary. It originally was made as a series of animated shorts for Amp'd Mobile before being picked up by Comedy Central.
"I'm thrilled the show has been picked up," Cary said. "I'm sorry it had to happen in the Minneapolis airport bathroom, but if that's the way (MTV Networks Entertainment president) Doug Herzog wants to run his company, it's cool with me."
