Content 360 fest sets 27 competitors

PARIS -- Interactive and multiplatform content will be in the spotlight at the third International Content 360 festival competition set to kick off during the upcoming MIPTV market in Cannes, organizers Reed MIDEM said Friday.

Finalists representing the 27 projects selected for competition will be in Cannes to pitch their projects to audiences and a jury composed of executives from the audiovisual, digital and advertising sectors.

Winners in each category will be announced April 10 during Ray Cokes' "Zapping Show" and take home prize money totaling 113,000 euros ($176,827) in development financing.

Finalists were selected from 285 candidates across eight categories by digital commissioners from Content 360 partners including the BBC, the Korean Broadcasting & Communications Commission, the National Film Board of Canada and OgilvyInteractive Worldwide.

More than 400 projects applied for the competition, including over 100 submissions in the branded-content category "Using the Power of the Brand for the Power of Good," compared with just 42 last year.

Some 42 countries submitted projects in 2008, compared with 36 in 2007, and more than 11 of those nations will be represented in the final competition, with Slovenia, South Africa, Finland and Norway making their grand debut this year.

"The continued success of the Content 360 competition demonstrates the need for traditional media to meet today's digital creators. We are excited to bring to MIPTV the latest content ideas for audience participation, social networking, personalization and interactivity, across all digital platforms," Reed MIDEM digital media director Ted Baracos said in a statement.
