Critics' Choice Television Awards Announce Categories

The voting procedures for the new awards ceremony, which will take place June 20, are also unveiled.

The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) has announced categories and voting procedures for the first Critics' Choice Television Awards.

“BTJA was launched to enhance access for broadcast journalists covering the television industry,” said Joey Berlin, acting president of BTJA. “Just as the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards has been established as an important part of the annual movie awards season, we are confident that the Critics’ Choice Television Awards will play a similar role for the television industry.”

The awards will also showcase the "most exciting new series" premiering this summer and fall, judging from pilots and early episodes.

As THR previously reported, the BTJA will hold the first luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on June 20.

The Critics' Choice Television Awards will honor programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011.

Here are the categories:

COMEDY SERIES

  • Lead Actor
  • Lead Actress
  • Supporting Actor
  • Supporting Actress
  • Show

DRAMA SERIES

  • Lead Actor
  • Lead Actress
  • Supporting Actor
  • Supporting Actress
  • Show

REALITY SERIES

  • Reality Program
  • Reality-Competition Program
  • Host

TALK SHOW
(Daytime as well as late night shows will be included in this category.)

BTJA members will serve on one of three nominating committees -- comedy, drama or reality. The committees will begin consideration May 1, with each committee's recommendations given June 1.

The nominees will be announced June 6, with the "most exciting new series" announced June 9. Final voting in other categories will take place June 14-16. Winners will be announced at the luncheon on June 20.
