'Crosswords' is poised to be popular

Program Partners and Merv Griffin Entertainment on Wednesday announced new clearances for the upcoming syndicated game show "Merv Griffin's Crosswords," bringing the half-hour strip past the 90% U.S. clearance mark for the 2007-08 season.

The Ty Treadway-hosted show, set to premiere Sept. 10, is now cleared in more than 160 markets, including all of the top 40 and 95 of the top 100.

"Crosswords" affiliates include stations from the groups including the NBC O&Os, Allbritton, Belo, CBS O&Os, Clear Channel, Cordillera, Cox, Duhamel, Freedom, Gannett, Gray, Hearst-Argyle, Hoak, Hubbard, Journal, JW Broadcasting, LIN, McGraw-Hill, Mission, New Age Media, Nexstar, Post-Newsweek, Raycom, Schurz, Scripps, Sinclair, Sunbeam, Tribune and Young.
