CTV inks deal for TMZ content

TORONTO -- Canada's TV celebrity news wars heated up Thursday as Canadian broadcaster CTV announced it has secured access to multiplatform content from TMZ.com via a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

The move comes as rival broadcaster CanWest MediaWorks gets set to relaunch its CH over-the-air TV network as E! on Friday, part of a content distribution deal with the U.S.-based E! Networks.

Beginning Sept. 10, CTV will have exclusive access to TMZ-branded content for its national TV network, Star!, its entertainment cable channel and its CTV.ca Web site.

The deal was hammered out by CTV programming chief Susanne Boyceand Mickie Steinmann, vp and general manager of Canadian operations at Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

The content deal will see CTV air "Scoop: TMZ," a daily half-hour TV series based on news from the TMZ.com site.
