CTV, RDS Grab Record Canadian Super Bowl Audience

7.3 million Canadians tuned into the Fox feed of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers showdown nationwide.

TORONTO – A record 7.3 million Canadians tuned into Super Bowl XLV on CTV and RDS. Sunday’s Canadian audience for the Fox feed of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers showdown was 5% higher than last year’s record viewership, according to BBM Canada data.

At the same time, the audience for the Super Bowl telecast on the main CTV network and RDS, the French-language cable sports channel, paled against an average of 16.6 million viewers, or half the Canadian population, that last year watched Canada beat the Americans to win the gold medal in the men's hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

The other showdown Sunday night saw Fox’s Glee battle CBS’ Flashpoint in the prized post-Super Bowl slot.

Glee on Global Television pulled in 2.16 million viewers, according to BBM Canada numbers, against 1.32 million Canadians tuning into the homegrown cop drama Flashpoint on CTV.

Both U.S. network dramas came in below their season averages.
