CTV re-ups Discovery deal
Multi-year contract includes first-time ancillary digital rightsTORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CTV has re-upped its Discovery Canada joint venture with Discovery Communications Inc., and snagged first-time ancillary digital rights.
The multi-year deal means CTV will maintain a pipeline of content from Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, Discovery Health, Discovery HD Theatre and Investigation Discovery for its own stable of Canadian cable channels, including Discovery HD and Animal Planet.
The Discovery Channel Canada joint venture, 80% owned by CTV and 20% with Discovery Communications, was originally established in 1994.
CTV will also use Discovery-branded content on its expanding online, VOD and mobile platforms, while securing the English-language rights to launch new Discovery-branded channels in Canada, excluding TLC and Military Channel.
