The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Mumford & Sons to Headline Lollapalooza
The Killers, Vampire Weekend and Lana Del Rey will also perform in August at the Chicago music festival.
The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Mumford & Sons, The Killers and Phoenix will headline Chicago’s Lollapalooza in August, the festival announced today. The ninth annual event also will feature performances by The Postal Service, New Order, Vampire Weekend, Queens of the Stone Age, The National and Kendrick Lamar.
This will mark The Cure’s first appearance at Lollapalooza.
“The first time I ran into Robert Smith of The Cure was 1997 in New York City,” festival founder Perry Farrell said in a news release. “We were both going into the same club; and it was Halloween. I was dressed as myself and so was he. I am so happy The Cure have finally arrived at Lolla in Chicago!”
The lineup also is notable with the return of Nine Inch Nails, who have been on hiatus since 2009. The Trent Reznor-fronted rock band played the original Lollapalooza in 1991 and hasn’t graced the main stage since 2008.
Other artists booked include The Lumineers, Eric Church, Ellie Goulding, Thievery Corporation, Grizzly Bear, Lana Del Rey, Band of Horses, Hot Chip, Azealia Banks, Local Natives and Two Door Cinema Club. The festival also will boast an extensive roster of EDM artists, including Steve Angello, Knife Party, Steve Aoki, Flux Pavilion, Major Lazer, Dog Blood, Dada Life and Dillon Francis.
Lollapalooza will take place Aug. 2-4 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Three-day passes for the festival sold out March 26, but a limited number of single-day passes ($95) will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. CST. VIP and Platinum passes also were available on Lollapalooza’s website.
