CW Ups Gaye Hirsch, Joanna Klein to Co-Heads of Drama Development

They will oversee the creation and development of new drama series for the network

Gaye Hirsch and Joanna Klein have been named co-heads of drama development at the CW, it was announced Wednesday by Thom Sherman, executive vice president of development.

Effective immediately, Hirsch and Klein will oversee the creation and development of new drama series for the network, which picked up Hart of Dixie, The Secret Circle and Ringer for the new television season. They will continue to report to Sherman.

“Gaye and Joanna each possess a unique and complementary combination of sharp instincts, creative talents, and fantastic relationships throughout the community,” said Sherman.

Hirsch joined the network in 2006 as vice president of current programming, where she oversaw day-to-day production on series like Gossip Girl, before moving into drama development as senior vice president working with Klein in developing Nikita, Dixie and Circle. She previously worked at Cruise/Wagner Productions, HBO Films and Touchstone Pictures.

Klein also joined in 2006 as vice president of drama development and was key in developing The Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl. In 2010, she was named senior vice president of drama development. Klein has worked at Regency Television, Lionsgate Television and Touchstone Television.
