D Films nabs Canadian rights to Joaquin Phoenix doc

'I'm Still Here' due in theaters Sept. 24, after bowing in Venice
TORONTO – Indie distributor D Films has picked up the Canadian rights to Casey Affleck's "I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix," a documentary about actor Joaquin Phoenix, from Magnolia Pictures.

The controversial film, Affleck's directorial debut, chronicles Phoenix's pursuit of a career as a hip-hop musician.
"I'm Still Here" will go out to Canadian theaters on September 24 after it bows in Venice out of competition and shifts to Toronto for a North American premiere.

The deal was negotiated by D Films president and CEO Jim Sherry and Magnolia Pictures International sales executive Laird Adamson.
