'Dancing With the Stars'' Maksim Chmerkovskiy: L.A. Is 'Superficial'

"The whole city is built on make believe," says the pro.
Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy may live part-time Los Angeles, but he's no fan of the city.
"It's superficial," the Ukranian native -- who is based on the East Coast when not competing on the ABC competition series -- tells USA Today.

"The whole city is built on make-believe. .. any city that sells star maps. Really," he adds.
His favorite spot in the city is Fratelli Cafe because of its healthy fare.

"Wherever you live, you have a spot where you feel you have friends and everyone's cool," he says of the West Hollywood eatery. "This is my place here."
He also likes Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica.

"[I] get rejuvenated. I love the ocean. I need the body of water. It takes an effort for me to slow down. What I love to do at Shutters is nothing," he tells USA Today.
