Das Vierte picks up slew of films
EmptyCOLOGNE, Germany -- NBC Universal has spruced up its programming with a series of deals encompassing about 250 feature films including "Jurassic Park III," "The Wedding Planner" and "Schindler's List."
Das Vierte acquired the films through separate licensing agreements with MGM and Universal as well as from German rights groups Kinowelt, SevenOne International, Telepool, Kineos and CLT-UFA.
Other top titles include Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet," Robert Rodriguez's "From Dusk Till Dawn" and German miniseries "A Light in Dark Places," which drew more than 10 million viewers when it first aired on Sat.1 five years ago.
The films are sure to freshen the image of the Munich-based channel, which relies largely on decades-old product drawn from the Universal back catalog.
The deals come as NBC Universal continues to look for a buyer for Das Vierte. While several big German companies have reportedly sniffed around the channel, no concrete offers have been made.
