David Attenborough's 'Penguins 3D' to Be Released on May 24
Distributor nWave Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the film from Atlantic Productions.
Distributor nWave Pictures has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Penguins 3D from the British company Atlantic Productions and will open the film in U.S. theaters on May 24.
Written and narrated by naturalist and filmmaker David Attenborough, the film follows a young male King Penguin as he makes his way through the Antarctic. It will be made available to Imax, RealD and digital 3D giant screen cinemas in 20-minute and 40-minuate versions in both 3D and 2D formats in digital 4K and 2K.
"We are thrilled and proud to work with Atlantic on the big screen release of this mesmerizing, 3D story-driven film that will wow kids and families alike," said Eric Dillens, chairman of nWave Studios, parent company to nWave Pictures. "This film acquisition marks an important step for our distribution company in our new strategy to provide a continuous flow of stunning and factually accurate films for exhibition in IMAX theatres and digital 3D cinemas at major US and international institutional and entertainment venues."
"Audiences have loved our recreation of pterosaurs in Flying Monsters 3D and we're excited to be partnering with nWave to bring them this new giant screen film," said Anthony Geffen, CEO of Atlantic Productions and producer of Penguins 3D.
Penguins 3D was produced by Atlantic Productions in association with Britain’s BSkyB and U.S.-based Galileo Digital Entertainment.
The industry premiere of Penguins 3D will be hosted in March during the Giant Screen Cinema Association 2013 Film Expo, at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas.
