There are now multiple Boston Marathon bombing projects in in the works from several studios.

David Gordon Green has signed on to direct Stronger, a Boston Marathon bombing movie project set up at Lionsgate.

While there are multiple Boston Marathon bombing projects in the works from several studios, this one focuses on Jeff Bauman, a survivor who lost both his legs in the attack.

Bauman was waiting for his girlfriend at the finish line of the annual marathon when two pressure cooker bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others. He chronicled his experience being a key witness in the trial of bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his attempts at rehab in a book titled Stronger, co-written by Bret Witter.

John Pollono wrote the script.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV are producing along with Scott Silver. The trio worked together on David O. Russell's The Fighter, and were rewarded with Oscar nominations.

Stronger is yet more evidence of Green’s desire to defy genre classification for his work. He directed a coming-of-age drama in George Washington, then segued into edgy comedies such as Pineapple Express and Your Highness. He helmed indie Manglehorn, featuring an aging Al Pacino, and recently wrapped production on Our Brand Is Crisis, Warner Bros.’ political dramedy starring Sandra Bullock.

Among Hollywood’s other Boston Marathon bombing projects are Patriot’s Day, CBS Films’ account that has Mark Wahlberg attached to star (and is also looking for a director) and Fox’s Boston Strong, which also is hunting for a helmer after losing Daniel Espinosa.

Green is repped by CAA and Pryor Cashman.
