Dawn Taubin to Run Marketing at DreamWorks Animation (Exclusive)
UPDATED: The well-respected studio executive served as president of marketing at Warner Bros. for six years.
Jeffrey Katzenberg has tapped Dawn Taubin to run marketing at DreamWorks Animation, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The hire, which has been rumored in Hollywood since THR reported Wednesday that she was being considered, marks a return to a high-profile studio job for Taubin. As chief marketing officer, she will spearhead all marketing efforts for the company, including theatrical, television and global brand initiatives.
"Dawn's vast experience in marketing franchise films with a global reach is a perfect fit as we continue to diversify and expand our brand," said Katzenberg, CEO of DWA. "Her passionate and knowledgable leadership will be integral to the company's growth, and I could not be more thrilled to welcome Dawn to the DreamWorks team."
From 2002 to 2008, Taubin was president of domestic marketing at Warner Bros. Pictures, where she steered numerous box-office hits, including the Harry Potter franchise, the Oceans series, 300 and the launch of Christopher Nolan's Batman series. The well-respected executive also successfully marketed Happy Feet, putting Warners momentarily back in the animation business. She also oversaw the marketing and awards campaign for Oscar winners Million Dollar Baby and The Departed.
But she left WB 2008 after a falling-out with studio head Jeff Robinov.
At DWA, Taubin will fill the post left vacant earlier this week when chief operating officer Anne Globe stepped down. Taubin will work closely with the marketing department at 20th Century Fox in selling DWA titles (the two companies are distribution partners).
Since leaving Warner Bros. five years ago, Taubin has been teaching at Chapman University. She also ran her own consulting business, Cinema Vision, and served as an awards-campaign and marketing consultant on The Help and War Horse for DreamWorks Pictures (separate from DWA).
