Daylong Email Outage Hits Hollywood PR Agency
A companywide server outage at Interpublic Group caused widespread havoc on Wednesday.
Imagine the horror: Hundreds of Hollywood publicists were forced to endure an entire day without access to their precious email.
The nightmare scenario happened Wednesday as a companywide server outage at Interpublic Group caused widespread havoc at the conglomerate's various advertising, media-buying and public relations companies, including the Hollywood-focused PMK*BNC PR agency.
It's unclear what caused the servers to go down or how many of Interpublic's nearly 50,000 employees across dozens of units experienced email troubles. But several publicists at PMK, which represents everyone from Robert Downey Jr. to Lena Dunham to Shonda Rhimes, reported being "out of communication" Wednesday, resorting to furiously texting clients and colleagues.
Reached for comment, PMK co-chairman and CEO Cindi Berger confirmed the daylong outage and said the problem was being rectified. "I have been assured by our global operations manager that they will have this fixed tonight," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
