Daytime Emmys Nominations: 'Young and the Restless' Leads
The soap usurps 'General Hospital's' 2015 lead, while 'Ellen' remains heads above other talkers.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Thursday announced nominees for the 2016 Daytime Emmys, and CBS' The Young and the Restless led the pack with nominations — 27, to be exact.
One of the four remaining daytime dramas left on the broadcast dial, it leads ABC's General Hospital (24 noms) and CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful (23 noms) as well as NBC's Days of Our Lives (16 noms). The previous year's big leader was General Hospital. The ABC show outpaced its fellow soaps among nominees, though the top drama prize was ultimately shared by Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is tops among talkers this year with 10 nominations. And in the increasingly crowded race between panel series, The Talk led with six mentions. It bested The Real (four noms), The View (three noms) and The Chew (two noms).
In its final year of eligibility airing exclusively on PBS, the now HBO-housed Sesame Street was among the top kids players with 10 nominations.
