CANNES -- Popular U.S. daytime dramas "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" will head to China thanks to a new deal between Metan Development Group and Power for the distribution of the soaps in that territory, Metan and Power said Monday.

Metan, a development and distribution venture for media in the international marketplace, will be the exclusive distributor for 130 episodes of each series in China.

"Guiding Light" is the longest-running drama in TV history, and "As the World Turns" the second, but both shows will hit Chinese small screens for the first time. Both shows are produced by TeleNext Media Inc, for Procter & Gamble Productions.

The deal was negotiated by Metan's Gordon Chu, Power's George Sakkalli and TeleNext Media's Brian T. Cahill.

"We feel strongly that the series' compelling storylines, relatable characters and program quality will have great appeal to audiences in China," Metan's president, CEO and founding partner Larry Namer said in a statement.
