Endemol CEO Ynon Kreiz will deliver the keynote address at next year's MIPTV market, where he will pronounce 2009 to be the most challenging year in more than a decade.

Kreiz, who took over in June as head of the private-equity-backed producer of such shows as "Big Brother" and "Deal or No Deal," will tell execs at the global content market in Cannes that content creators will need to take "bold and innovative" steps in order to ride the downturn.

"MIPTV is a pivotal event in the TV industry calendar, and 2009 is set to be the most challenging year our sector has faced in over a decade," Kreiz said.

His senior team — including incoming COO Tom Toumazis, former head of Disney's European distribution and channels business — takes charge Jan. 1.

Reed Midem director of television Paul Johnson said the keynote would be one of the highlights of the market, which runs March 30-April 3. "Ynon is steering Endemol on a new path," he said. (partialdiff)
