Deluxe/EchoStar to Project NHL Game at CinemaCon

The matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins will be part of a demonstration of a soon-to-be-launched satellite delivery service.

LAS VEGAS -- A live feed of Tuesday night's NHL game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins will be projected at CinemaCon as part of a demonstration of a soon-to-be-launched satellite delivery service from Deluxe/EchoStar Llc.

Deluxe/EchoStar is a joint venture between Deluxe Digital Cinema, a subsidiary of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, and EchoStar Satellite Services, a subsidiary of EchoStar Corp. They are building an advanced digital cinema satellite distribution network targeting delivery to digitally equipped theaters in the U.S. and Canada.

In addition to showing the ability to deliver live content to theaters, Tuesday's demonstration will also include some tape-delayed content.

Jim Whittlesey, senior vp technology and operations at Deluxe Digital Cinema, suggested that satellite delivery of movies -- compared with today's more common method of delivering digital cinema content on hard drives -- can result in a lower price point and improved quality of service (as the process includes built-in check points).
