“She’s got the range, the full emotional spectrum, incredible control,” gushed writer-producer Toby Gad in an interview with Elle Magazine. “Vocally, she’s the best thing Disney’s had since Christina Aguilera.”

Aguilera, who recently signed on for the second season of NBC's The Voice, served as a Mousketeer on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club from 1993-1995.

The compliment is significant, coming from someone who has worked with fellow Disney alum Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, in addition to the likes of Fergie and Beyonce. “What was always markedly different about her was that adult quality,” he continued. “When you meet her, you know this isn’t a girl in stiletto heels – this is a woman.”
 
“She has a voice like she swallowed Pat Benatar,” added former Disney Channel president Rich Ross.

Despite her talent, Lovato’s future was uncertain following a very public meltdown while on tour with the Jonas Brothers. At one point, she socked former friend and backup dancer, Alex Welsh, right in the face on a flight to Peru.
 
“I just felt like she betrayed me,” Lovato explained to the mag. “When you punch someone right on a plane, enough is enough… Right after, I texted my mom and just said, ‘I’m sorry.’”
 
“I was completely out of line all summer,” she admitted. “Just the worst attitude – totally ungrateful.”
 
Since seeking help for issues relating to anorexia, bulimia and cutting, Lovato has emerged as a positive and grateful starlet with a seemingly bright career ahead of her. Her still-untitled third studio album is set for a Sept. 20th release, and may be followed by a worldwide tour, as the singer hinted during a fan webcast.
