'Demolition' Breakout to Star in New Line's 'The Babysitter' (Exclusive)

Samara Weaving has been cast as the female lead in McG's film.

Judah Lewis, the breakout star of Jean-Marc Vallée's Demolition, is in negotiations to star in The Babysitter.

The New Line film, which will be directed by McG, follows a young boy and his babysitter on a night where things go very wrong, with the boy learning a few lessons about life, love and murder along the way.

Newcomer Australian actress, who cut her teeth on the Down Under soap opera Home and Away, Samara Weaving will play the babysitter.

McG will produce via his Wonderland Sound & Vision along with the company’s president, Mary Viola.

The script, by Brian Duffield, generated heat when it was on the 2014 Blacklist. Wonderland initially optioned the project and developed it before taking it to a studio. 

Wonderland is co-financing through a partnership with Zack Schiller of Boies/Schiller Film Group. Schiller will exec produce along with James McGough.

New Line execs Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter will oversee.

Lewis made his feature film debut with Jean-Marc Vallee's Demolition opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.The film opened the Toronto Film Festival and will hit theaters in April. His work in the movie got him noticed by Marvel and put him into the final running for the coveted role of the rebooted Spider-Man.

Lewis, who will also appear in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Point Break remake, is repped by Paradigm, Principato-Young and Morris Yorn.

Weaving will next be seen in Paramount’s Monster Trucks. She's repped by CAA, Shanahan Management and Untitled Entertainment.
