Denim-on-Denim Makes a Red-Carpet Comeback at the VMAs
Bleachers' Jack Antonoff and rapper Conceited make a case for the Canadian tux.
Not since Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake showed up at the 2001 American Music Awards wearing matching all-denim ensembles has a red-carpet seen so much denim-on-denim. Until Sunday, that is, when a slew of musicians stepped out in true blue at the 2017 MTV VMAs in Los Angeles.
No stranger to denim-on-denim looks, Jack Antonoff, whose band Bleachers was set to perform during the show, led the charge with cuffed jeans and a white shirt, paired with an unbuttoned Wrangler denim shirt.
Rapper Conceited added his own twist to the Texas tuxedo with plenty of bling.
MTV's Wild 'N Out star Chico Beans also opted for the tried-and-true trend with a patch-covered denim jacket.
This isn't the first time the denim-on-denim look has stirred the VMAs. This year's host, Katy Perry, paid homage to the infamous Spears/Timberlake fashion statement previously at the 2014 awards show, wearing a custom denim Versace dress as she arrived on the arm of denim-clad rapper Riff Raff.
