Dennis Quaid tapped for ShoWest honor

Actor named male star of the year

Dennis Quaid, who will next be seen on the big screen in two major summer releases, will be honored as male star of the year at ShoWest 2009.

Quaid will be feted at an awards banquet set to close the annual exhibition confab on April 2. ShoWest begins March 30 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.

"Dennis Quaid's impressive accomplishments as an actor and his charismatic onscreen presence have been entertaining audiences for more than three decades," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said.

Quaid's first major film role was in 1979 drama "Breaking Away." His other film credits include well-known pics such as "The Right Stuff" (1983), "The Parent Trap" (1998), "The Rookie" (2002) and "Far From Heaven" (2002).

Quaid is part of the ensemble cast on Paramount's Aug. 7 tentpole "G.I. Joe" and among the voice cast on Lionsgate's animated sci-fi actioner "Battle for Terra," which unspools May 1 during the first weekend of the popcorn-pic season.
