Derek Blasberg Is Writing a Book About Models
The fashion insider is dishing on what it's like being BFFs with Karlie Kloss and Naomi Campbell in a new tome for Harper's Bazaar.
Derek Blasberg may have recently left Harper's Bazaar as its editor at large for a new role at Vanity Fair, but that doesn't mean he's saying good-bye to his former employer for good. In fact, the fashion insider's latest project involves working with Harper's: He's writing a book about models called Harper's Bazaar: Models (Abrams Books).
Considering his Instagram account is typically flooded with photos and videos of supermodels Naomi Campbell, Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss, to name a few, there's no doubt Blasberg's the right man for the job. In an interview with Harper's, Blasberg said he was inspired to do the book for people like him "who grew up idolizing models and wanting to know more about them."
The new coffee table book, which includes an introduction from Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey and a foreword by Karl Lagerfeld, gives an exclusive look at the top models (Iman, Patti Hansen, Cindy Crawford and Lara Stone included) that have appeared in Harper's over the last 60 years.
"The fun part about this book, apart from going through the archives and finding these iconic images, was researching the real lives of these women," added Blasberg, who previously released the New York Times best-seller Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady (Penguin Books, 2010) and Very Classy: Even More Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady (Penguin, 2011).
