Design Network Launches Mom-Centric Decorating Series
Former "Extreme Makeover" designer Tracy Hutson heads up "Momtourage."
The Design Network’s new online makeover series Momtourage offers a fresh take on the interior design intervention: Tracy Hutson, known for her 10-season role on the Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, focuses on single moms who live in Habitat for Humanity homes in greater Los Angeles. Together with her group of mom friends, Hutson pays surprise visits to the homes, interviews the residents and helps redecorate long-neglected spaces.
“I didn't just want to do a design show; I wanted to really help moms who are getting back on their feet so I decided to partner with Habitat,” says Hutson, a mother of two young boys who has also written books about interior design and created a line of home accessories for QVC. “We do living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and bring in furniture, draperies, accessories. We’ll hang pictures on the walls.”
Much of the furniture donated in the episodes comes from Furnitureland South, the High Point, N.C.-based company that is the world’s largest furniture store and is also owned by The Design Network founders Jason and Jeff Harris. Featured items link back to each sponsor’s site.
“We’re only in the homes for one day, so it’s fast, but we do a lot as a team,” says Hutson. “These are quick, easy episodes that are direct and straight to the point. It’s about design, but the overall picture is the philanthropic spirit of moms helping moms.”
