Designers Dish: Shoe Mastermind Gianvito Rossi
The Milanese shoe designer mingled (and sipped martinis) with Chrissy Teigen and Mischa Barton, while showing off his newest collection, at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills Thursday evening.
Gianvito Rossi is known for turning out some of the sexiest shoes in the game, with his cool creations seen on the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez.
During Thursday's event at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, we caught up with the Italian creative (who was also seen chatting with Chrissy Teigen and Mischa Barton) to talk inspiration and favorite new styles from his fall 2015 collection.
Pret-a-Reporter: What was the inspiration behind this collection? Was there a particular woman or movie that inspired you the most while designing this line?
Gianvito Rossi: It is difficult to refer to a specific movie or woman, but I tried to interpret the '70s mood, which is an attitude. It is a more relaxed way to approach fashion, instead of being tough and aggressive. The pieces have different shapes like larger toes, chunkier heels and suede fabric; it is a much softer esthetic.
Do you have a favorite style from the new collection?
I like very much the over-the-knee suede boots, with the round toes, in either the black or the light rose. And I would have to say the satin and velvet tuxedo stiletto pump.
Do you get excited when an actress wears a pair of your shoes on the red carpet?
Yes, I get excited when actresses wear my designs on the red carpet!
Do you remember the first time a celebrity stepped out in one of your designs?
I do remember. It was Gwyneth Paltrow — she was wearing a high black suede pump. It was nice.
How important is social media to your business?
It is important for everything now, I think. It is the "new media."
Who would be your ideal brand ambassador from the past or present and why?
I don’t think that I have one. I would rather look to the future and think about who can be the next possible ambassador.
