'Dhoom:3' Marks First Bollywood Imax Release
The third installment of the hit action franchise will bow in 2013 and will be the first Indian production to also release in Imax formats.
NEW DELHI – Imax Corporation and Bollywood banner Yash Raj Films announced that action thriller Dhoom:3 will be the first Indian local language production to be released in the Imax format.
Produced by YRF's creative head Aditya Chopra and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Dhoom:3 will see the buddy cop franchise's principal leads, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, alongwith new cast members, top actress Katrina Kaif and leading actor Aamir Khan.
The youngest son of YRF founder and veteran film-maker Yash Chopra, Uday is also the CEO of YRF's Hollywood-based production and financing company YRF Entertainment. Recently, YRF Entertainment and Paris-based Stone Angels announced their co-production, Grace of Monaco. Directed by Olivier Dahan (La Vie En Rose), the film stars Nicole Kidman in the title role.
Dhoom:3 is currently shooting and is set for a 2013 release. The film will be digitally remastered in the Imax format with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. Dhoom:3 will be released in Imax theatres across India and select global locations. Imax Corp currently has 14 Imax theatres open or contracted to open in India.
“Imax has always symbolized high quality film entertainment and experience and this vision of the company works very well with the ethos of YRF which has been synonymous with Indian film entertainment over the last four decades. We are indeed happy to announce our association with Imax for the additional release of Dhoom:3 in this exciting format next year. Added to the anticipated thrill that the film promises, this Imax experience will give it an all new edge of the seat dimension altogether. We look forward to closely working with their team over the coming year,” said YRF chairman Yash Chopra.
“Our network growth in India has reached a point where we're now able to present local-language films in Imax, which is paramount to our success in the region," said Imax Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster. “We’re very excited to begin this partnership with Yash Raj Films and look forward to working with director Vijay Krishna Acharya and Yash and (his eldest son) Aditya Chopra on this highly anticipated Bollywood blockbuster. With its riveting action set pieces, global locales and stunning visuals, Dhoom:3 is an ideal film to take advantage of our immersive format as we begin our initiative with Indian-language/Bollywood films.”
