Diane Disney Miller Remembers Robert Sherman, Late 'Mary Poppins' Songwriter
The daughter of the late composer's great champion issues a statement on the loss.
Robert Sherman was both a friend and favorite employee of Walt Disney, and on Wednesday, the legendary studio chief's daughter reflected on the songwriter's passing.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of Robert Sherman's passing," Diane Disney Miller said in a statement emailed to The Hollywood Reporter. "He and his younger brother, Richard, brought beautiful words and music to the world of Disney, the films and the parks alike.
"The whole world shares a love for their music and my father loved and respected them both," Disney Miller continued. "We offer our respectful sympathies to Robert's children and grandchildren, and to Richard and his family. Theirs was a long and fruitful collaboration, and we're all grateful for it."

Sherman worked, alongside brother Richard, directly for Walt Disney, who commissioned a long series of now-iconic songs from the duo. Perhaps best known for writing Disneyland ride tune “It’s a Small World After All” and Mary Poppins song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," the pair also penned songs for The Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh, amongst many other projects and films.
In a statement put out Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “Today, on behalf of everyone at Disney, we mourn the loss of an extraordinary talent, Robert Sherman. One of the world’s greatest songwriters and a true Disney legend, his legacy will endure forever through the magic of his music... Robert, along with his brother Richard, wrote many of Disney’s most memorable and beloved songs, which continue to enchant millions of people around the world to this day.”
