Diane Sawyer Lands First Interview With Mother of Columbine Killer
Sawyer will sit down with Sue Klebold for a one-hour primetime special to air in February.
More than 15 years after the Columbine High School massacre, Diane Sawyer has landed the first interview with the mother of shooter Dylan Klebold, ABC News announced Thursday.
Sawyer will sit down with Sue Klebold for a one-hour primetime special set to air in February. The interview is timed to the release of her memoir, A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy, which also comes out in February.
Dylan and Eric Harris opened fire on their Colorado-area high school on April 20, 1999, killing 12 students and one teacher before killing themselves.
Still considered the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history, the special will also look at mental health and the lasting effects of such shootings.
In addition to the special, excerpts from Sawyer's interview will air on other ABC News platforms including Good Morning America, World News Tonight With David Muir and Nightline, among others.
This is the latest get for Sawyer, who interviewed Caitlyn Jenner in April before her transition.
