Eddie Izzard, Jason Ritter and Tom Wilkinson are also starring in the indie, which is an adaptation of Caren Lissner's coming-of-age novel.

As Sundance hit Diary of a Teenage Girl begins to roll out into theaters in the U.S. on Friday, its star Bel Powley has lined up another film role.

The British rising star has nabbed the titular role in Carrie Pilby, based on the coming-of-age novel by Caren Lissner.

Powley will play the Carrie, a 19-year-old genius who has just graduated from Harvard and has no idea how to fit in or socialize in life outside college. Hailee Steinfeld was previously attached to the role, but exited due to scheduling conflicts.

Susan Johnson will direct the indie, which also stars Eddie Izzard, Jason Ritter and Tom Wilkinson.

Suzanne Farwell, a longtime producer of Nancy Meyers' films, originally found and fell in love with the book and is producing Carrie Pilby, which is aiming to shoot in the fall in New York. Susan Cartsonis will also produce. Radiant is handling international sales for the project.

Kara Holden wrote the script, with Dean Craig working on later drafts.

Lissner's popular book was first published in 2003 under Harlequin Enterprises' female-centric Red Dress Ink imprint, which was launched to focus on the growing "chick-lit" market that included books with a humorous edge like Bridget Jones' Diary.

Powley, who was featured as one of THR's 10 Festival Breakouts, received strong critical praise for her work in Diary of a Teenage Girl, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and also screened at the Berlin Film Festival. Directed by Marielle Heller and co-starring Kristen Wiig and Alexander Skarsgard, Sony Pictures Classics is releasing Diary in the U.S. beginning on Aug. 7.

She will next be seen in Drake Doremus' Equals, starring Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. She's wrapped production on Christopher Smith's psychological thriller Detour, with Tye Sheridan, and is attached to star in Haifaa Al-Mansour's A Storm in the Stars and Marius Markevicius' Ashes in the Snow. She's repped by UTA, Schachter/Brown and the BWH Agency.
