Oscar dues

As the Academy Awards ceremony draws closer, more nominated films are being slotted for DVD release. The latest to be announced are "The Last King of Scotland" and "Notes on a Scandal," both set to arrive in stores April 17 from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Forest Whitaker is up for a best actor Oscar in "Scotland," while "Scandal" has four noms, including best adapted screenplay, original score, actress (Judi Dench) and supporting actress (Cate Blanchett).



'Bell' call

Walt Disney Pictures' new CG-animated feature "Tinker Bell" will be released worldwide in fall 2008, Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment said this week. The film, produced by Disney Toon Studios, will mark the first time audiences will hear Tinker Bell speak (Brittany Murphy is doing the voice-over). The release is part of the companywide Disney Fairies initiative.



Infinity in

Direct marketer Infinity Resources is launching a retail distribution arm, Infinity Entertainment, headed by home entertainment industry veteran Rick Buehler. The label will focus on the retail distribution of independent films, TV DVDs, anime, music DVDs, documentaries and special-interest programs. Plans call for the release of eight to 10 titles a month beginning in April.



'Kubrick' on

"Colour Me Kubrick: A True…ish Story," a comedy in which John Malkovich plays a man impersonating the director on the set of his last movie, is the next "super release" from Magnolia Pictures. It is slated to arrive March 27 on DVD, HDNet Movies and in theaters.
