Digest: Dennis on DVD
Empty"A Dennis the Menace Christmas" will be the next direct-to-video release from Warner Premiere, Warner Bros.' DTV unit. The film, which stars Robert Wagner as Mr. Wilson and newcomer Maxwell Perry Cotton as the impish Dennis, will be released Nov. 6. The new production, helmed by Ron Oliver, also will be available in a three-pack with 1993's "Dennis the Menace" and its DTV sequel, 1998's "Dennis the Menace Strikes Again."
Robots in the streets
Add one more blockbuster to the swelling fourth-quarter home video slate of summer theatricals: "Transformers" hits shelves Oct. 16 from Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, with a worldwide boxoffice gross of more than $600 million, will be available on DVD and HD DVD in two-disc special editions, as well as a stripped-down single-disc DVD. The HD DVD edition includes a host of innovative Web-enabled interactive features, including an onscreen "dashboard" over the film that provides information about the robots and weapons.
Klein stands up
All eight of veteran comic Robert Klein's HBO specials will be released in a four-disc boxed set Sept. 25 from Standing Room Only Entertainment. "Robert Klein: The HBO Specials 1975-2005" includes 1982's "Robert Klein at Yale," which has been inducted into the permanent collection of the Paley Center for Media.
Home Media sked
Home Media Magazine, in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter and others, has two new events on the calendar: The TV DVD Awards, this year a stand-alone event scheduled for Nov. 12 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, and High Def 2.0, Dec. 13, also at the Hyatt. The latter is a preview, open to consumers, of what's in store for Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD software in 2008.
