Digest: Due dates, TV-DVD nods
EmptyParamount Home Entertainment is starting the new year with an assortment of TV-DVD releases. First up: "Gunsmoke: Season 2, Volume 1," along with "Naked Brothers Band: Season 1" and "Rob & Big: The Complete Seasons 1 and 2," due Jan. 8. Next come Season 3 sets of "Hawaii Five-O" and "The Odd Couple" on Jan. 22, followed Jan. 29 by "JAG: Season 5." Third-season sets of "Beauty and the Beast" and "Soul Food" follow Feb. 5.
Jerry Mathers ("Leave It to Beaver") and Charlene Tilton ("Dallas") are among several celebrity presenters scheduled for the fourth annual TV DVD Awards, which will be held Monday night at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The awards, produced by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with The Hollywood Reporter and DEG: the Digital Entertainment Group, honor the best TV-DVDs of 2007. More than 160 entries were received; winners, determined by consumer vote, will be announced in 18 categories.
The Griffin clan's spoof of "Star Wars," which kicked off the sixth season of Fox's "Family Guy," will be released as a stand-alone DVD on Jan. 15 by 20th Century Fox. "Family Guy: Blue Harvest" comes with four minutes of never-before-seen material, an uncensored track, commentaries and interviews with series creator Seth MacFarlane and George Lucas. A special edition also comes with trading cards, a T-shirt and 3-D glasses.
DEG ups Quinn
DEG: the Digital Entertainment Group has established an operations committee chaired by John Quinn, a longtime Warner Home Video executive vp. Bill Segil, senior vp worldwide operations at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, is vice chairman. The committee will explore issues and trends in supply-chain management, operations and green media.
