DiMartino joins old boss at TLC

In her first executive hire since taking the reins at Discovery Communications' TLC, new president and GM Angela Shapiro-Mathes has tapped her longtime lieutenant, Regina DiMartino, as executive vp marketing.

Based in Los Angeles, DiMartino will head marketing, advertising and branding and will oversee digital content and communications at TLC.

"Regina is a creative marketing executive who has a successful track record positioning brands and developing new revenue streams in a competitive environment," Shapiro-Mathes said. "She has the energy and passion required to take TLC to the next level, and I'm thrilled to have her join my senior team."

This marks DiMartino's fourth tour of duty under Shapiro-Mathes.

DiMartino most recently served as executive vp global marketing at Fox Television Studios, where Shapiro-Mathes was president until leaving in April to go to TLC. (Shapiro-Mathes' official first day at TLC was SundayJuly 1.) DiMartino, along with two other department heads, was let go in May by new Fox Television Studios president Emiliano Calemzuk (HR 5/18).

Before that, DiMartino was senior vp marketing, advertising and promotion at ABC Family Channel, where she redesigned and rebranded the cable channel and the Web site. She joined ABC Family shortly after Shapiro-Mathes became president of the channel and left amid an executive restructuring after Shapiro-Mathes' exit in 2004.

DiMartino and Shapiro-Mathes first worked together at ABC Daytime, where Shapiro-Mathes was president and DiMartino was senior vp marketing and promotion, instrumental in launching the "Shop the Soaps" program with Home Shopping Network and implementing ABC Super Soap Weekends at Disney's California Adventure theme park.

Earlier in her career, DiMartino was a producer for CBS' "As the World Turns," created the home video production unit at ABC Daytime and served in multiple marketing and publicity functions during a long tenure at ABC.
