Dimension Nabs Underwater Thriller '47 Meters Down' for North America


Dimension Films has acquired North American distribution rights to underwater thriller 47 Meters Down.

The film, which will be directed by Storage 24 helmer Johannes Roberts, follows two sisters who become trapped at the bottom of the ocean after a diving exhibition goes wrong. Stuck in an observation cage that has sunk to the bottom of the ocean, the sisters must figure out a way to get back to safety battling injuries, lack of oxygen, and great white sharks. 

Mark Lane and James Harris are producing via their The Tea Shop and Film Company banner. Altitude Film Sales is handling worldwide sales.

"This script really caught my eye with its tension and adventure. I look forward to working with Johannes to bring audiences a very unique edge of your seat thrill-ride,” said Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein in a statement.

Robert Walak, president and managing director Europe, production, acquisitions and TV, and Michal Steinberg, executive vp business/legal affairs and acquisitions, negotiated the deal for Dimension Films with Mike Runagall at Altitude Film Sales on behalf of the filmmakers.
