Discovery begins broadcast of Science and Turbo
New channels approved in AugustNEW DELHI -- Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific announced Thursday the launch of its two new channels in India, Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo.
Discovery obtained clearance to launch these channels in August from India's Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
“Discovery Science will provide a stimulating look at the impact of science and technology on our everyday lives through a range of entertaining programs... From cars, trucks, motorbikes, planes, yachts and trains and everything in between, Discovery Turbo will celebrate all aspects of speed and will cover a range of programs on everything motored," Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific senior VP and GM India Rahul Johri said.
Broadcast in English, the new networks will initially air on News Corp.-owned joint venture Tata Sky (Direct to Home service) but will soon be available on both analog and digital platforms across the country.
The new channels take Discovery’s portfolio in India to five, including Discovery Channel, Discovery Travel & Living and Animal Planet, which the network claims reach 116 million cumulative subscribers with programming customized in English, Hindi and Tamil.
