Bomb squad swept buildingNEW YORK - Discovery Communications employees returned to the company's headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. on Thursday - a day after a hostage crisis had shut it down.
Sources said the building was open for business Thursday after police had secured it late Wednesday and security forces made sure to rid it of explosives.
An overnight sweep of the Discovery building turned up "a number of items that were disrupted by the bomb squad, including two backpacks and two boxes," local TV station ABC 7 and news site TBD.com reported.
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley in a statement praised Montgomery County police and the Discovery corporate team. "I also want to commend Discovery CEO David Zaslav and the employees of Discovery for executing their crisis plan flawlessly and for remaining calm during this crisis," the statement said.
