Discovery Communications has pinned senior vp stripes on development executive Jeff Hasler and communications exec Elizabeth Hillman.

Hasler has been promoted to senior vp development for the Discovery Channel and the Science Channel, while Hillman has been upped to senior vp communications for both networks.

Hasler most recently was vp development at the Discovery Channel, where he created a slate of brand-definitional series and specials focused on the network's core programming roots. In his new post, he will be responsible for initiating original programming ideas for the two networks, managing primetime and daytime program development teams, supervising pilot production and developing series and special event programming concepts and formats.

In her new role, Hillman oversees all communications strategies and media outreach for the Discovery Channel and the Science Channel, including the development of media campaigns for the networks' programming, partnerships and online assets. Hillman, who was vp communications, has led communications plans for such shows as "Deadliest Catch," "The Flight That Fought Back" and "Shark Week."

"Jeff and Elizabeth are two of the best in the business," said president and general manager Jane Root, to whom Hasler and Hillman report. Root praised Hasler's "creative instincts and keen appreciation of Discovery's brand potential" and Hillman's "incredible vision and leadership."

Hasler joined Discovery in 2005 after serving as director of programming at A&E, while Hillman joined in 2004 after developing and executing media strategies for Crown Media and its Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel.
