In his new role, Phillips is responsible for major distribution negotiations with Discovery's top cable and satellite partners and also oversees all affiliate operations and compliance for Discovery's 13 domestic networks.

Phillips began his career at Discovery in 2002 in the legal affairs department, most recently serving as senior vp affiliate distribution. He is based at Discovery's global headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.

"In the past five years with Discovery, Eric has proven himself an indispensable asset to this company," said Bill Goodwyn, president of domestic distribution and enterprises at Discovery Communications. "His superior work with negotiating and securing agreements with top distribution partners has been integral in helping Discovery's quality brands grow their subscriber footprint across the U.S."

Before joining Discovery, Phillips practiced corporate law at the firm of Covington & Burling. Before that, he was a clerk for U.S. Federal Appeals Court Judge Diana Murphy and worked as an aide on Capitol Hill for Michigan Sen. Donald Riegle.
