Disney Channel Sets 'Teen Beach Movie' Premiere Date
Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell star in the modern take on classic beach-party movies.
Disney Channel has set a date for its original music-filled telefilm Teen Beach Movie.
The surfing-themed movie will premiere at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19. Additionally, the trailer is set to debut on Friday at midnight on Disney.com and at 9 p.m. on Disney Channel.
Ross Lynch (Disney Channel's Austin & Ally) and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family's upcoming The Fosters) star as Brady and McKenzie, surfers who mysteriously wind up in a classic beach-party movie called Wet Side Story. There, it's surfers vs. bikers for control of the beach hangout -- and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance.
Teen Beach Movie also stars Grace Phipps, Garrett Clayton, John Deluca, Chrissie Fit, Tony nominee Kevin Chamberlin and Steve Valentine.
Meanwhile, the movie's soundtrack -- featuring 12 songs influenced by surf rock, Motown R&B, rockabilly and pop -- will be available from Walt Disney Records on Tuesday, July 16, on iTunes and in stores nationwide. Songwriters and producers Antonina Armato & Tim James, Jeannie Lurie, Aris Archontis, Chen Neeman, David Lawrence & Faye Greenberg, Ali Dee, Mitch Allan, Jason Evigan and Nikki Leonti contributed to the soundtrack.
Teen Beach Movie, from Rainforest Productions, was written by Vince Marcello & Mark Landry and Robert Horn and directed by Jeffrey Hornaday, who also choreographed with Chris Scott.
David Buelow serves as executive producer, with Robert F. Phillips as producer.
