Disney Channel Spain Prepares 'La Gira' Shoot
Music-themed series is the first Disney Channel series entirely created and produced in Spain.
MADRID -- Disney Channel Spain will start shooting its original La Gira, set to premiere on the family-oriented channel, in February 2011.
La Gira, (literally translated "On Tour") is the first Disney Channel series entirely created and produced in Spain, with a keen eye on interactive participation from the audience via Internet.
The first season, 26 eight-minute episodes, will star Lucia Gil and Paula Dalli -- winners of the channel's My Camp Rock competition -- as well as promising young talents Andrea Guasch, Daniel Sanchez, Ramon San Ramon and Jorge Clemente.
Ezequiel Segui, executive producer at Disney Channel Spain said the channel decided to develop the series after seeing the musical and acting chops on tap in Spain during the course of the My Camp Rock competition. The three basic pillars of the production are "characters the audience can relate to, universal stories and large doses of music."
Not only will one of the stars write a weekly blog, but audiences can accompany the young band on tour at concerts via the show's website.
Disney said that other territories have already shown interest in adapting the product to their markets.
Disney's move further supports what analysts have argued is Spain's growing importance as one of the most advanced digital TV markets and days after the Walt Disney Company announced it will premiere its Body of Evidence series in Spain rather than in the U.S. Body will premiere in January 2011 on national channel Cuatro and pay-channel Fox.
