Disney Considering Deal for Maker Digital Studio (Report)
Disney is mulling a purchase of online video firm Maker Studios in a deal that would value Maker at $500 million or more, according to a report from Re/Code.
A spokeswoman for Maker Studios declined to comment on the deal. Disney could not be reached for comment.
There has been lots of talk in the online video industry of late about a need for consolidation. Should the deal go through, it would be the biggest bet that a traditional media company has made on the YouTube space.
Last year DreamWorks Animation acquired teen-skewing multichannel network AwesomenessTV for $33 million.
Maker Studios, helmed by CEO Ynon Kreiz, has raised about $66 million in venture capital since its founding in 2009.
