There has been lots of talk in the online video industry of late about a need for consolidation. Should the deal go through, it would be the biggest bet that a traditional media company has made on the YouTube space.

Last year DreamWorks Animation acquired teen-skewing multichannel network AwesomenessTV for $33 million.

Maker Studios, helmed by CEO Ynon Kreiz, has raised about $66 million in venture capital since its founding in 2009.
