Disney Junior Canada Nabs First Window for 'Justin Time' From Netflix

The U.S. streaming company will debut the kids series' third season in all other territories where it operates

Disney Junior has swooped in to deny Netflix Canada first-run rights to the third season of the Canadian indie preschool series Justin Time.

Netflix last month ordered a third season of the Emmy-nominated Justin Time to stream exclusively for its worldwide subscribers starting in early 2016. But Disney Junior has picked up the first Canadian window in 2016 as part of its own order for Justin Time: The New Adventures from Guru Studio.

Netflix confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the U.S. streamer will debut the third season of Justin Time first-run in all other territories where it operates outside of Canada. That leaves Netflix Canada to stream the series' latest season in 2017.

Production on the latest installment of Justin Time, or 13 half-hours, begins next month. The preschool show, which also airs on Sprout stateside, debuted on Disney Junior Canada before Netflix picked up the streaming rights to the first two seasons.

Separately, Netflix and The Walt Disney Studios have a multiyear licensing agreement that makes Netflix Canada the exclusive Canadian pay TV window for first-run Disney live-action and animated feature films.
